Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Quinn admitted to feeling conflicted about his role in the demise of former club Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Quinn was on target in the second half for Hull City as they came from 2-1 down at halftime to beat the Blades 5-3 and book a final meeting with Arsenal at wembley.

Quinn scored Hull's fourth, the eventual winner, before international team-mate David Meyler added some gloss with a fifth in the 90th minute.

“The question was posed to me during the week would I celebrate if I scored and I said ‘no’,” said Quinn afterwards. “I have too much respect for a big club that helped me to grow as a player and looked after me and my family for a number of years.

“It just had to happen didn’t it really. It was written in the stars so there are mixed emotions. But I am really happy to score a goal at Wembley and get to the final.

“I think that we deserved it. We have more than held our own in the Premier League. We have had some good results and we have had a good cup run so this could turn out to be a tremendous year if we finish it strong.”
