Diego Costa and Pedro will undergo late fitness tests. Costa damaged ribs in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out defeat at Stoke, while Pedro has been absent in recent games with an undisclosed knock. Midfielder Nemanja Matic is available after serving a one-match suspension for his dismissal at West Ham last Saturday, but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois (knee) and defender Branislav Ivanovic (hamstring) remain out.

Striker Christian Benteke returns to Liverpool’s squad. He was rested for the Capital One Cup victory over Bournemouth because of a knee niggle but has trained since and will go back into the side. Defender Kolo Toure is out with a hamstring injury sustained in midweek, midfielder James Milner returns from suspension while forward Roberto Firmino is pushing for a starting spot.

Jason Puncheon will be fit for Crystal Palace while Yohan Cabaye needs a late fitness check. Puncheon missed the midweek Capital One Cup defeat at Manchester City through illness and fellow midfielder Cabaye sat out with a knock. Full-backs Pape Souare and Joel Ward are short of fitness and strikers Marouane Chamakh (hamstring) and Connor Wickham (calf) remain out.

Manchester United will be without injured trio Memphis Depay, Antonio Valencia and James Wilson. Depay and Wilson were both injured in the Capital One Cup defeat to Middlesbrough while Valencia hurt his foot in the Manchester derby last weekend. Ashley Young is pushing for a recall after coming off the bench against Middlesbrough having missed the previous three games while Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair are long-term absentees.

Manchester City playmaker David Silva is not fit to return. The Spain international has been out for the past fortnight with an ankle injury but could be back in contention for next week’s Champions League trip to Sevilla. Right-back Pablo Zabaleta suffered medial ligament damage this week and is likely to be out until after the November international break. Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Fabian Delph are still sidelined.

Norwich will be without on-loan Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom (knee). Forward Dieumerci Mbokani is also a doubt having missed the midweek Capital One Cup defeat at Everton because of illness. Midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu returned from pre-season foot surgery to play at Goodison Park, so may be involved in the squad again.

Newcastle skipper Fabricio Coloccini is available after a successful appeal against his red card at Sunderland. The Argentinian was sent off in first-half injury time for a challenge on striker Steven Fletcher, but saw his dismissal rescinded after launching a challenge. However, midfielder Jack Colback could be out for up to six weeks after damaging his knee at the Stadium of Light.

Stoke’s Marc Muniesa will miss the trip to Tyneside on Saturday with a hamstring problem which is expected to keep him out for a month. Muniesa joins Geoff Cameron (thigh) on the sidelines after sustaining the injury during Tuesday’s Capital One Cup triumph against Chelsea, while Phil Bardsley is suspended following his sending-off in that game, but their fellow defender Erik Pieters is available again, having served a ban. Glen Johnson and Bojan Krkic are also set to be back involved after sitting out the cup tie, as is the on-loan Marco van Ginkel, who was ineligible against his parent club. Fit-again captain Ryan Shawcross should retain his place after what was his first appearance of the season.

Costa Rica international Joel Campbell is expected to be given his opportunity on the right flank. Captain Mikel Arteta (ankle) also misses out and goalkeeper David Ospina (shoulder) is still not available. Midfielder Jack Wilshere (fibula), forward Danny Welbeck and Czech playmaker Tomas Rosicky (both knee) all continue their rehabilitation.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic could welcome back defender Winston Reid after the New Zealand international missed the win over Chelsea with a thigh issue. Victor Moses is also back after being ineligible against his parent club but Alex Song (ankle) is still missing while Bilic has to decide whether to hand last weekend’s match-winner Andy Carroll his first start since January.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis confirmed they have “one or two” doubts to be assessed but did not name the players. Goalkeeper Ben Foster remains a long-term absentee with the serious knee injury he suffered in March but midfielder James Morrison could return after an ankle injury, with last week’s 1-0 win at Norwich coming too soon for the Scotland international.

Leonardo Ulloa is expected to return from injury. City boss Claudio Ranieri chose not to risk Ulloa, who has recently been nursing a thigh strain, in the Capital One Cup at Hull but the Argentinian striker should be back in the squad at the Hawthorns. Ranieri will make wholesale changes on Saturday after swapping 10 players in midweek, with the Premier League’s leading scorer Jamie Vardy among those set to be recalled to the starting line-up.

Right-back Seamus Coleman is a major doubt because of a stomach bug. Midfielder Gareth Barry returns from suspension while goalkeeper Tim Howard will be among the players to come back in after manager Roberto Martinez shuffled his pack for the Capital One Cup win over Norwich in midweek. Left-back Leighton Baines and midfielder Muhamed Besic were both set to return to full training on Friday as they work their way back to match fitness while captain Phil Jagielka remains sidelined by a knee injury.

Central defenders John O’Shea (hamstring) and Younes Kaboul (groin), and midfielder Ola Toivonen (also groin) are doubtful for Sunderland after limping out of last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Newcastle, while striker Fabio Borini remains a concern after missing the derby with an ankle problem. None of the four have trained this week but they will be given until the last minute to prove their fitness, with Sebastian Coates and Wes Brown standing by to fill key positions at the back if O’Shea and Kaboul do not make it.

Harry Arter is in line for his first Premier League start of the season after playing 71 minutes of Bournemouth’s Capital One Cup defeat at Liverpool. The midfielder’s return is a timely boost to manager Eddie Howe, who remains without long-term absentees Callum Wilson, Max Gradel and Tyrone Mings (all knee), the former perhaps his biggest goal threat and the other two the club’s most expensive ever signings. Out-of-form goalkeeper Artur Boruc is still nursing a thigh problem, so Adam Federici is again expected to start in his absence. Captain Tommy Elphick is also still out with an ankle injury, albeit not for the long term.

Micah Richards is awaiting the outcome of a Football Association investigation and could be banned. The captain has admitted a charge of improper conduct following an incident in the tunnel after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea and the FA is set to decide his punishment. Joleon Lescott is expected to make a comeback after missing Wednesday’s 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat at Southampton through injury, while Idrissa Gana and Adama Traore should return to the squad as they were rested for the St Mary’s trip.

Midfielder Ryan Mason is in line for his first Tottenham start in six weeks. The England international suffered a knee injury against Sunderland last month but came off the bench at Bournemouth last week to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s options. Summer signing Son Heung-min (foot) remains absent as does Federico Fazio (hamstring) while ankle injuries keep Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli and Alex Pritchard sidelined.
