Sven-Goran Eriksson will be allowed to look for another job between now and the end of England's World Cup campaign - with the blessing of the English FA.
Eriksson says his departure from the top job in English football will cost the FA nothing if he can secure further employment by the time the World Cup is over.
The Swede is all set to give agent Athole Still the go ahead to seek out potential employers but Eriksson is fully aware he cannot let his search interfere with England's World Cup preparations.
Even so, FA chief executive Brian Barwick insisted that Eriksson would be allowed to hunt for another post during the remaining five months of his tenure in what he described as a
"manageable situation".
But the Swede is under no illusions that he can simply walk into another job even though he wants to stay in management with a top club or leading country.
"If I want to negotiate I have my agent," said Eriksson. "In football you don't phone clubs or countries and say 'can I come and work for you'. They offer you the job.
"I can assure you that I will not be sitting talking to anyone when we are playing football. It will not disturb the preparation for the World Cup over the next five months.
"I want to stay in football, I want to be a manager in a club or country. The most important thing is that it is a good team with a chance to achieve something important. But I don't have any offers at the moment. If I want to stay in football though, I can't wait until 10th of July, that is obvious."
Meanwhile Guus Hiddink's agent has claimed the Dutchman has no immediate interest in succeeding Eriksson as England manager.
Hiddink, who is currently combining the roles of coaching PSV Eindhoven and the Australia national side, is one of a number of candidates linked to the post which Eriksson will vacate after the World Cup.
Hiddink has an impressive record having transformed PSV over the past three years and led Australia to the World Cup for the first time in 32 years. He has also led Holland and South Korea to the semi-finals of the tournament in the past.
But agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen told Sky Sports News: "He is happy with PSV this season and then after this he will concentrate on Australia and the World Cup. He then has one more year with PSV.
"After that if something comes up he will look at it but it does not make sense to comment. There has been no contact.
