Charlton Athletic striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has been charged by the English FA with improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute for claims he made about his former club Chelsea.
The Dutch striker, 34, alleged in his autobiography that Chelsea had paid an additional bonus to their players following the Champions League quarter-final victory over Arsenal in April 2004.
Such payments would have breached Premier League rules. Chelsea denied Hasselbaink's allegations and the league found no evidence to support his claims.
The FA, in a statement on their Web site today, said it had held its own inquiry into Hasselbaink's conduct.
Hasselbaink, who joined Charlton from Premier League rivals Middlesbrough on a free transfer earlier this month, has until August 14th to respond to the charge.
He spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge before joining Boro in July 2004.
