News from the Premier League:  Cesc Fabregas has revealed he is in talks with Arsenal about a new contract, even though his current deal runs until the summer of 2014.

Fabregas was speaking in response to renewed speculation in Spain of a possible swoop by Barcelona this summer for his Arsenal manager and mentor, Arsene Wenger, as a replacement for the under-pressure Frank Rijkaard.

The 21-year-old Spain international has also been heavily linked with a return to his former club Barca - and Real Madrid - over the last year, and any speculation about Wenger going to Spain inevitably also brings into spotlight Fabregas' future.

However, Fabregas has regularly insisted he is happy at Arsenal, with whom he signed an eight-year contract extension in 2006, and nothing appears to have changed on that front.

"I have contract in force until 2014, I have six years remaining and I am talking with my club, who are interested in renegotiating it," said Fabregas in an interview on radio station Cadena Ser.

"I want to succeed at Arsenal and that the club wants me is fundamental for me. I am proud (to be linked to Barcelona), I am from Barcelona and I have played there. But now I only think of winning as many titles as possible here (at Arsenal)."

Liverpool get Torres injury boost

Fernando Torres has handed Liverpool an injury boost by returning to training.

The club's top scorer missed last weekend's 0-0 draw at Chelsea after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Spain.

But Reds boss Rafa Benitez has now declared Torres fit to face Inter Milan in the Champions League next week - and he is even considering using him in this weekend's FA Cup fifth-round clash with Barnsley at Anfield.

Benitez told the club's official website: "For Inter, Torres will be OK. We will have to check before Barnsley."

Benitez has also been boosted by the return to fitness of defensive trio Sami Hyypia, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio.

The Spaniard has promised to field a strong side against Barnsley and is delighted to have his injured players back in contention.

"I need to consider both games but I know it's important to progress in the FA Cup, so I will try to use a strong team," added Benitez.

"Sami Hyypia is improving. He could be available, but we will have to analyse the situation.

"Torres also did the warm-up (before training), as well as Fabio Aurelio and Alvaro Arbeloa, and they are really close. Now it is about whether we will take the risk or not."

Redknapp rejects Kanu speculation

Harry Redknapp has dismissed suggestions of striker Kanu moving to Australia as a "lot of cobblers", but would not stand in the player's way if he wants to walk away from Fratton Park at the end of the season.

Kanu's agent Samuel Okoronkwo claims new Australian club Gold Coast Galaxy have expressed an interest in making the former Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal ace their big attraction when they enter the Australian A league later this year.

He admits it is something he and Kanu "would like to discuss".

And Redknapp, en route back to the south coast with his squad after a four-day break in Spain ahead of Sunday's fifth-round FA Cup tie at Preston, said: "If he wants to go I wouldn't stand in Kanu's way. You don't want unhappy players and I've never tried to keep them here.

"But I think talk of Australia is just a lot of cobblers, though. I think he wants to stay here. The lad seems to be happy and I don't want him to go anywhere. He has been terrific for me.

"He is out of contract at the end of the season but I want him to stay here - and I think he wants to stay."

In fact, Kanu, 31, needs just two more first-team appearances this season - making a total of 20 - to activate a clause in his latest Portsmouth contract which entitles him to the option of another one-year deal.

Eriksson sure of Dunne deal

Sven-Goran Eriksson is confident Richard Dunne will sign a new deal at Manchester City despite being linked with a summer move.

Talks over the contract extension stalled in January, and both parties are set to get back around the table shortly in an attempt to reach an agreement.

Club captain Dunne has been at City for eight years and has been voted their Player of the Year three times.

But it is reported he wants parity with defensive partner Micah Richards, who signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Eastlands just last week.

If Dunne does not strike a deal, he could take advantage of the FIFA ruling that allows players over the age of 28 that have spent two years at the club to buy out the remaining 12 months of their contract.

But despite reported interest from Celtic and Newcastle in the Republic of Ireland defender, Eriksson said: "It is in the pipeline and I am sure he will sign a new contract."
