LOI review:St Patrick's Athletic are not giving up their title chase without a fight, signalling as much this evening with a 5-0 win over UCD at Richmond Park.
The result leaves Pat’s five points adrift of Sligo Rovers - who have 12 points to play for - having played a game more. It’s a tall order but Vinny Faherty’s hat-trick tonight and goals from Jake Kelly and Anto Flood keeps them in the hunt.
Kelly struck first after 16 minutes when he latched on to Chris Forrester’s goal and curled a shot past Ger Barron. Pat’s had to wait until the 58th minute for the second but the floodgates opened after Faherty’s neat finish.
His second came eight minutes later when Forrester’s chip hit the post and rebounded to him before he fed Faherty to head home.
Forrester was provider again 18 minutes from time when he set up Flood to finish from close range and Faherty added the fifth five minutes from time.
Goals from Declan O’Brien and Ryan Brennan saw Drogheda United stay one point behind Pat’s with a 2-1 win over Shelbourne.
