Soccer:Keith Fahey is in line to add to his tally of seven caps after being drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad for next week's Carling Nations Cup meeting with Wales at the Aviva Stadium. The Birmingham midfielder replaces the injured Keith Treacy.
Fahey, who opened his international account when scoring the winner in Armenia last September, was deemed surplus to requirements by manager Giovanni Trapattoni when he trimmed his squad earlier this week.
Fahey appeared to be paying the price for a lacklustre performance in November’s friendly against Norway with Trapattoni preferring to explore other options.
Wigan’s James McCarthy, not included in the original squad, was even promoted ahead of the Dubliner. However, with Treacy now ruled out with a knee injury Fahey has been handed an opportunity to redeem himself.
