Former Bohemians player-manager and Republic of Ireland international Gareth Farrelly is training with struggling English Championship side Leicester City.
The 31-year-old left the Dublin club five weeks ago following their 2-0 FAI Cup replay defeat to bitter city rivals Shamrock Rovers and is now on the look out for new employers.
Farrelly is allowed sign for a new club despite the current closure of the British transfer window as his contract was officially terminated by the Bohemians board.
Leicester's assistant manager Mike Stowell says Farrelly is training with the club in a bid to regain fitness but the club are undecided whether to extend the gesture beyond that.
"Gareth has had spells at Bolton, Everton and Wigan and he now just wants to play football again," Stowell says.
"We know he is a good player and we will take a look at him. He is a non-contract player and he wants to do some work and get fit. He wants to see where he is."
Farrelly featured in a recent friendly against Derby and Leicester, with no upcoming game due to the international break, will give his situation more consideration over the coming week.
Although Farrelly was cutting his managerial teeth at Bohemians he still feels he has more to offer on the field of play and, for the time being at least, his next designs in the game would appear to be as a player.
