Shelbourne boss Pat Fenlon is preparing his players for testing conditions in Lithuania when his side face FK Vetra tomorrow for the start of their Intertoto Cup campaign.

Fenlon's side, who are without the services of injured duo Greg O'Halloran and Gary O'Neill, will have to contend with fierce heat and a potentially poor surface in Vilnius for the first-leg encounter.

Fenlon said: "We've trained now in two different locations, including the national stadium and in both cases the pitches were very poor.

"But it's a case of making do and getting on with. It's quite hot over here too, it has been 28 degrees and we have to be careful monitoring the players against loss of fluids and weight."

Along with O'Halloran and O'Neill, Shelbourne will be without Dave Rogers, who serves a two-match ban following his red card against Steaua Bucharest last summer in a Champions League qualifier.

Fenlon will wait to make a late decision on his starting line-up against a side who recently sacked their manager following a run of bad results.

"I'll probably try and keep any changes to a minimum, so we'll be looking at bringing in Dave Crawley rather than moving Ollie Cahill back and having to make another change on the left wing," added Fenlon.

Regarding Vetra change of management, he added: "It's hard to know how that can affect a team - it can work either way. They've promoted their reserve manager for the rest of their season, so we'll have to see how they react to that?"
