Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has played down his Old Trafford tunnel stand-off with Robbie Savage.
The two clashed leaving the pitch at half-time during Wednesday’s Carling Cup semi-final second leg which United won.
Minutes before the half-time whistle, Savage was tackled by Alan Smith and then shoved over by Ruud van Nistelrooy who clipped Savage on the head with his knee as he fell.
It was Savage's reaction to that incident which is thought to have enraged Ferdinand, sparking the confrontation at the half-time whistle.
Wayne Rooney acted as peace-maker to ensure the incident did not get out of hand.
Ferdinand insists, however, there was no fear of the spat getting out of hand.
"It was handbags," he told The Sun. "We had a little debate. It was the sort of thing that goes on all the time. It was nothing to get excited about, and I am sure Robbie would agree."
The FA are awaiting the referee's report before deciding what action - if any- to take.
