Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is still chasing Owen Hargreaves in his quest to create "the complete midfield".

Ferguson targeted England midfielders Hargreaves and Michael Carrick in the summer but while Spurs accepted his bid for Carrick, he was foiled by Bayern Munich in his attempts to sign for Hargreaves.

The German club threatened to report United to Fifa for breach of transfer regulations, but that will not stop the Red Devils returning with a fresh offer for Hargreaves when the January transfer window opens.

Ferguson said: "We're still interested in Hargreaves. But there's no update to give at the moment as we haven't spoken with Bayern again."
