The co-hosting of the next European championships has come under further threat today after Fifa and Uefa insisted they will not have any dealings with the Polish Football Federation.
The Polish government has suspended the Polish Football Federation (PZPN), alleging it had failed to address allegations of corruption following a ruling from the Polish Olympic Committee,
The minister for sport and tourism Miroslaw Drzewicki has also installed Robert Zawlocki as temporary chief of the federation.
Both Fifa and Uefa have stated in the past that they will not tolerate political interference with an international football federation and repeated that stance today, insisting that they will only recognise the previous board, led by Michal Listkiewicz.
Uefa spokesman William Gaillard went one step further this afternoon, saying: "We are hoping we will be solving the problems before the end of October so it will not affect 2012.
"But if the problem is not solved and the Polish FA will not have ability to operate then it's a different ball game, and that opens all kinds of question marks around Euro 2012.
"The European Championships are administrated through the Polish and Ukrainian FAs, not their governments.
"If there is no legitimate Polish FA then we will not have a Euro in Poland - we are a long way from that situation but that is what they must face."
The Fifa Executive Committee meets in Zurich on October 23rd-24th and Uefa's Emergency Panel is due to meet around the same time.
Uefa issued a warning to Poland and Ukraine only last Friday that they must speed up their preparations, especially with regard to the poor condition of stadia, and meet several conditions.
Gaillard added: "Look back at Friday where there were a number of conditions laid down - if they do not exist then it becomes complicated."
Earlier a joint statement from the associations read: "Fifa and Uefa do not recognise either the decision by the arbitration court of the Polish National Olympic Committee, or the appointment of an 'administrator' of the PZPN.
"Fifa and Uefa continue to recognise the current leadership of the PZPN chaired by Michal Listkiewicz as the only legitimate authority to run football in Poland and to represent it internationally."
Fifa added that it would ignore any correspondence from the newly-installed board. In the past, it has suspended nations due to government interference.
The world governing body will also join Uefa in contacting the International Olympic Committee to raise concerns over the actions of the Polish Olympic Committee.
Zawlocki has written to Uefa president Michel Platini to reassure him the tournament will continue unaffected.
