Real Madrid striker Ronaldo has held talks with Flamengo over a possible move, according to the Brazilian club.

The 29-year-old Brazil international has lost his place in the Real line-up in recent weeks and was rumoured to be looking for a way out of the Spanish capital.

A number of big companies, including Nike, are ready to help finance a move according to Flamengo vice-president Kleber Leite.

"It's an old dream of both Ronaldo and Flamengo," Leite told GloboEsporte.com. "The person who doesn't like to have Ronaldo in his squad is crazy.

"Ronaldo is not happy and a player like him cannot remain unhappy in that way. Financially, everything is possible and Flamengo are ready to do everything possible to have him.

"I talked to him some days ago and he told me he was interested in playing for Flamengo. I don't know the points of his contract with Real Madrid and that will be the first step."

Ronaldo has been in European football for almost 12 seasons after leaving Cruzeiro as a 17-year-old to join PSV Eindhoven in 1994.

One of Real's now-infamous 'galacticos', he has been the subject of fierce criticism in the wake of the resignation of club president Florentino Perez, the architect behind his acquisition in 2002.

Ronaldo refused to be drawn on his future following the goalless draw at Valencia on Saturday, in which he came off the bench and missed a last-minute penalty.
