While the news regarding Damien Duff is less clear, Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni is almost certain to be without Caleb Folan for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Hull striker, currently on loan at Championship club Middlesbrough, tore a hamstring during training on Sunday and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Folan had been expected to start his first game for the Teeside club against Leicester this evening but could be out for up to six weeks depending on the severity of the tear.

"We don't know the length of time he'll be out for yet but it looks like quite a serious one," said Boro manager Gareth Southgate.
