Tennis: Jelena Jankovic stunned fourth seed Elena Dementieva to reach the semi-finals of the US Open last night.
The Serbian, who has never previously been beyond the third round in New York, played brilliantly against the 2004 finalist.
Jankovic went a break up early on and never looked back after that, winning the first set 6-2.
Dementieva, who had been in fine form coming into the match seemed to go to pieces thereafter, winning just one more game as she slumped to a 2-6 1-6 loss.
The Russian served five double faults and hit 39 unforced errors in the match, and never really got going.
Jankovic, who had lost in three sets to Dementieva in the Los Angeles final earlier this summer, awaits either Justine Henin-Hardenne or Lindsay Davenport in Thursday's semi-finals - their match was postponed due to rain which later hit the Flushing Meadows complex.
"I mean, it's amazing," Jankovic said of her rout.
"Especially (after how) we played in LA. She beat me 6-4 in the third. We played for like two hours and a half. It was such a tough match. Today I expected as well to have a tough, tough battle.
"But I don't know what happened. I was just playing quite solid, playing aggressively, didn't allow her to play her game. I was also returning well."
In the men's singles, Marat Safin led Tommy Haas 2-1 with a break in the first set when the rain arrived.
The matches between Tomas Berdych and James Blake, and Roger Federer and Marc Gicquel didn't start and were put back until today. PA
