Soccer:The Los Angeles Galaxy have declined to confirm they are targeting a move for Tottenham's Robbie Keane. The 31-year-old revealed this week that he expects to leave Tottenham before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Widespread reports have claimed the Galaxy want to bring Keane to Major League Soccer, where he could team up with former England captain David Beckham.
Asked specifically to comment on the Keane link, a spokesman for the Galaxy said in a statement: “We are always looking to improve our squad and have contacted or been contacted by a host of players during the current transfer window. As soon as we have something confirmed in regards to any potential player acquisitions we will be sure to alert everyone.”
The Irish skipper had been seen as a target for Leicester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson in recent days but the Dubliner was adamant when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday that he would not be dropping down into the Championship.
West Brom and Blackburn Rovers were amongst the Premier League clubs rumoured to be interested in the striker but last night reports circulated that Galaxy were in talks with Spurs about the player with some suggesting that he was on a flight to the United States to discuss a move supposedly worth €5.6 million over two years and others claiming that the deal was actually done.
