St Patrick's Athletic 0 Galway United 1: Galway United's last-ditch bid for survival received a major boost this evening as they overcame second-placed St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.

The win moves Jeff Kenna's side above Cobh Ramblers and out of the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference.

Vinny Faherty, who netted a brace in the 4-0 win over Bray on Friday, was again on target for the visitors who move clear of the bottom three for the first time since last March.

The winning goal arrived on 22 minutes when Faherty got on the end of an Alan Murphy cross to head beyond Lance Friesz in the St Pat's goal.

St Patrick's Athletic: Friesz; Haverty, Gavin, Partridge, O'Cearuill; O'Brien (Harris, 75 mins.), Brennan, Bialek, Byrne (Fahey, 62 mins.); G. Fitzpatrick, S. Fitzpatrick (Guy, 66 mins.).
