Soccer:Galway United remain confident of plying their trade in the Airtricity League Premier Division this season despite being refused a licence by the FAI's licensing committee this morning.
The club were only awarded an ‘A’ championship licence after failing to fulfil the financial criteria required but have five days in which to lodge appeal and are expected to do so.
As things stand, Monaghan are set to take their place in the top flight when the new season gets underway. However, should Galway win any appeal Monaghan will have to settle for a place in the First Division.
Although Drogheda United were relegated they will remain in the Premier Division and will take the place of Sporting Fingal, who went out of business last Thursday. The Drogs were granted a licence to compete in the top flight.
Limerick FC were awarded a conditional First Division Licence after the committee requested the club provide security regarding the financial commitments outlined in their budget as presented as part of the licensing process.
