Team news: Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Sunday's FA Cup tie at Luton with a calf injury. The Liverpool captain sustained the injury in the midweek home draw with Wigan and will not be in the party that travels to Kenilworth Road for the third round tie.
Boss Rafael Benitez has also been hit by injuries to defenders Alvaro Arbeloa (calf) and Fabio Aurelio (hamstring). It means that youngsters Jack Hobbs and Lucas are expected to be involved, while Benitez will wait for medical reports on injured defenders Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger before finalising his squad.
Elsewhere, veteran German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann looks set for a rare start when league leaders Arsenal travel to Championship side Burnley.
Manager Arsene Wenger indicated he intends to play African Nations Cup-bound Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue, while full-back Bacary Sagna is expected to return after being rested in the Barclays Premier League defeat of West Ham.
Captain William Gallas and fellow defender Gael Clichy look set to take a breather, while Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner returns from suspension. Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring) may miss out, while Robin van Persie (muscular) is closing in on full match fitness but will not yet be ready.
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar will return to the side for the match against Aston Villa tomorrow after recovering from a groin injury. He will replace Tomas Kuszczak between the posts for the third round tie.
Wayne Rooney will travel after returning to training following a virus that caused him to miss the victory against Birmingham in midweek.
Carlos Tevez remains doubtful after suffering an ankle injury during that game. Manager Alex Ferguson said: "We will give him every chance as he is in such good form."
