Ireland’s Darron Gibson is hopeful of signing a new contract with Manchester United after a breakthrough of sorts at Old Trafford last season.
The 21-year-old midfielder forced his way into Alex Ferguson's plans on a regular basis and also established himself in the Republic of Ireland squad.
Having caught the eye with a number of assured performances, especially in the Carling Cup, it has come as no surprise he currently finds himself at the centre of much transfer speculation.
A move to Everton has been touted, but Gibson has insisted he has no desire to leave United.
"My contract is coming to an end so, hopefully, at the end of the month I'll be signing a new one," said Gibson. "My current deal ends at the end of next season but, normally, a player would enter into new contract talks at the end of this month.
"I've been told that a few clubs had expressed an interest in signing me, but I want to give it a good push and have a proper go at it next season before I decide to go anywhere else."
Should Ireland make it to net year’s World Cup, Gibson’s chances of travelling could be well be affected by the decision he makes this summer.
If he re-signs for United, he may not feature enough for inclusion in Trapattoni’s squad, though a move to a lesser club could also hamper his chances.
