Manager Don Givens has settled on replacements for the injured Paul McShane, Glenn Whelan, Colin Doyle and Stephen Ireland ahead of the Republic of Ireland under-21's forthcoming European Championship qualifying games against Azerbaijan.

Walsall's Rene Gilmartin, Keith Keane of Luton Town and Bristol City's Richard Keogh join Drogheda's Stephen Bradley, who was called up last week, in the remoulded squad ahead of the away leg in Azerbaijan this day week.

The second leg will be played at Kilkenny City's Buckley Park in a fortnight.

Bohemians midfielder John Paul Kelly will captain the Irish under-19 team for the Elite Phase of the Uefa Championships later this month, for which manager Sean McCaffrey today named his squad.

Ipswich pair Owen Garvan and Shane Supple, Stephen Gleeson of Wolves, Burnley's Chris McCann and Adam Rooney of Stok City are all included for the first time this season.

McCaffrey's side open their campaign against hosts Slovakia on May 19th.  Two days later they face Turkey and close against Georgia on Tuesday, May 23rd.  The group winner progresses to the finals in Poland in July.

Finally, senior manager Steve Staunton will announce his squad for upcoming training camp in Portugal and the May 24th home friendly with Chile on Monday next.
