Premier League review:West Ham were relegated from the Barclays Premier League after a 3-2 defeat by fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium. Irishman Conor Sammon got on the scoresheet as the home side came from two goals down to register an improbable injury time win.

Wigan's own survival battle goes to the last day of the season.

The Hammers needed to win to stand any chance of beating the drop and were 2-0 up at half-time courtesy of Demba Ba's headers on 12 and 26 minutes.

The Latics stormed back after the break with Charles N'Zogbia scoring either side of a Sammon strike to leave Roberto Martinez's side in the bottom three on goal difference alone and send the visitors down.

Like Wigan, Birminghamare facing a last-day battle for survival after Brede Hangeland's brace helped Fulhamwin 2-0 at St Andrew's.

The Carling Cup holders, lacking several key players through injury and suspension, produced their worst performance of the season to leave their top flight status hanging on a knife edge.

City are now level on points with third-from-bottom Blackpool and second-from-bottom Wigan and have to visit Tottenham next Sunday.

Spursspoiled the Anfield party to celebrate Kenny Dalglish's confirmation as permanent manager as they seized the advantage in the race for a Europa League spot with a 2-0 win at Liverpool.

However, referee Howard Webb could be accused of having a helping hand in deciding the outcome with a series of questionable decisions which culminated in the award of a very favourable penalty for the visitors' second.

Rafael van der Vaart's volley had given Harry Redknapp's side an early lead only for Liverpool to wrest back control of the game until 11 minutes after the interval when Webb controversially pointed to the spot and Luka Modric converted.

Arsenal'sfrustrating end to the season continued as Aston Villaran out 2-1 winners at the Emirates Stadium after an early brace from Darren Bent.

The Gunners are now in real danger of seeing FA Cup winners Manchester City overtake them in the race for automatic Champions League qualification after a third defeat in four games.

Bent struck twice inside the opening 15 minutes following more poor defending from Arsene Wenger's men, who saw referee Michael Oliver turn down a first-half penalty shout and rule out a close-range header from substitute Marouane Chamakh before Robin van Persie bundled home a consolation, with boos ringing out around the ground at the final whistle.

Earlier, Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsealooked anything but contenders for next season's title as they threw away victory to draw 2-2 against Newcastle.

In what could be his final home game in charge, Ancelotti's team selection very much appeared to have the new campaign in mind and it looked promising when Branislav Ivanovic scored inside two minutes.

But Jonas Gutierrez soon levelled after unwittingly deflecting in Ryan Taylor's free-kick and although Alex headed the Blues back in front late on, Steven Taylor snatched a draw at the death.
