Soccer:Record goalscorer David Healy has returned to the Northern Ireland squad for the Carling Nations Cup match against Scotland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on February 9th, while there is also a first senior call-up for teenage striker Liam Boyce.
Healy, left out of Nigel Worthington’s previous squad against Morocco, moved to Rangers on a six-month deal after leaving Sunderland. The 31-year-old will be hoping the switch north of the border helps him recapture his form in front of goal, having last hit the net for Northern Ireland against San Marino in October 2008.
Boyce, meanwhile, joins up with the senior group for the first time after the 19-year-old impressed with Werder Bremen’s under-23 side following a move from Cliftonville. Celtic duo Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn — who recently received bullets through the post which were intercepted — are also included.
Northern Ireland squad:M Taylor (Birmingham), J Tuffey (Inverness), Alan Blayney (Linfield); J Evans (Manchester United), S Craigan (Motherwell), C Cathcart (Blackpool), G McAuley (Ipswich), A Hughes (Fulham), C Baird (Fulham), G McCartney (Sunderland, on loan at Leeds); G McCann (Peterborough), C Brunt (West Brom), J Gorman (Wolves), C Evans (Manchester United, on loan at Hull), S Davis (Rangers), N McGinn (Celtic), S Clingan (Coventry), P McCourt (Celtic); D Healy (Rangers), W Feeney (Oldham), K Lafferty (Rangers), R Patterson (Plymouth), L Boyce (Werder Bremen).
