Finn Harps are in search of a new manager after Paul Hegarty stepped down today, citing “private and personal reasons”.

Finn Harps are in search of a new manager after Paul Hegarty stepped down today, citing “private and personal reasons”.

Former goalkeeper James Gallagher has been asked by the club to take over on a temporary basis.

“I would like to thank everybody who gave me the opportunity to manage Finn Harps. I wish the club all the best for the future,” Hegarty said today.

Harps chairman Derek Wilkinson added: “As Chairman of Finn Harps and on behalf of the club I want to place on record our sincere thanks to Paul Hegarty for his contribution to the club over the years and anyone who knows Paul knows that his commitment to Harps was wholehearted and unstinting.

Hegarty led Harps to promotion to the Premier Division in 2007 but they were relegated back to the second tier last season.

They have just one win from nine this season and are third from bottom after four draws and four defeats.
