Embattled French striker Thierry Henry was singled out for special praise by Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola after helping his side move five points clear at the top of Spain’s Primera Division.
Goals from Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave Barca a 2-0 win at Xerez last night as the Catalans built on crucial recent wins over Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
Guardiola was full of admiration for Henry, who has suffered widespread criticism in recent weeks for his handball which enabled France to beat the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup play-offs.
He added: “He contributed more than most. He did what we needed him to do well. I hope the goal gives him confidence.
“I hope the team makes a leap forward in the upcoming matches. We have to lift ourselves because on Sunday we’re playing one of the strongest teams in the league in Deportivo La Coruna.”
