Derry City manager boss Stephen Kenny hopes home advantage will count in the first leg as his side look to cause a shock in their Uefa Cup first-round tie against French giants Paris St Germain.

The Candystripes were given little chance of coming through the qualifying round against IFK Gothenburg but won home and away before battering Gretna 5-1 in Scotland to progress into the tournament proper.

When Derry were paired with PSG, there was talk of switching the tie to Dublin due to the limited capacity at the Brandywell, where the eircom League side are unbeaten this term.

But Derry stood firm and a crowd of around 3,000 will pack the ground tomorrow night.

"The way everyone has got behind the team and the way that the players have responded has been incredible," Kenny told the Belfast Telegraph.

"Playing the game at the Brandywell was important, not just because of our record there this season, but because it inspires the team."

Kenny has no injury worries as he prepares to face a team currently 15th in Ligue 1, with one win from their five opening matches.

Paris St Germain have left three of their French internationals at home.

Vikash Dhorasoo and Edouard Cisse are rested ahead of the weekend league schedule in France while Jerome Rothen is not fit and did not travel.   PA
