Soccer:He may not be in the immediate plans of Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni, but Norwich City winger Wes Hoolahan received recognition from the Professional Footballers' Association of Ireland today as one of their three nominations for Irish overseas player of the year.

The Dublin-born player helped the Canaries to promotion to the Premier League, where they are in ninth position after a promising start in the top flight.

Hoolahan is up against Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne and West Brom striker Shane Long for the award.

FAI Cup winners Sligo Rovers lead the nominations for the player of the year award, with Richie Ryan and Eoin Doyle among the six nominations.
