Stephen Hunt has received a one-match international ban following his red card in the recent European qualilfier defeat to the Czech Republic in Prague.

The Reading midfielder will now miss the upcoming Group D game against leaders Germany at Croke Park on October 13th but will be available for the Cyprus game four days later.

He was sent off for sliding into Czech player Jan Polak when contesting a ball some 23 minutes after replacing the injured John O'Shea.

The dismissal came at a critical stage in the game as Hunt had provided thrust and energy to the Irish team at a time when they were chasing a 1-0 game.

Greek referee Kyros Vassaras deemed the incident "serious foul play", much to the frustration of manager Steve Staunton who said the decision was "very harsh".

"The player acted injured but was up running around when Hunty had got off the pitch," he said at the time. "There was a lot of play-acting."

Czech Republic manager Karel Bruckner echoed those sentiments post-match and described Hunt's sending off as "unnecessary".

The Football Association of Ireland lodged an appeal, which included video evidence, on Hunt's behalf.

Following that hearing, Uefa's Control and Disciplinary Committee today issued a one-match ban.

Sunderland defender Paul McShane also misses the Germany game as he was yellow carded in Prague.

Staunton could also be without Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson for the double-header as he broke a toe in a reserve-team game yesterday.

Hunt, meanwhile, insists he is "genuinely sorry" to see Jose Mourinho leave Chelsea.

The Portuguese, who parted company with the London club this morning, had accused the Waterford man of being deliberately reckless when colliding with goalkeeper Petr Cech last October.

Cech, whom Hunt played against in Prague last week, fractured his skull in the incident.

"Honestly, I'm disappointed he has gone," said Hunt of Mourinho.  "He is a character and has been great for the league.

"In terms of what he has done in the competition and the worldwide press he has brought to the game has only been good for the Premier League."
