Dundee United striker Noel Hunt believes a "no fear" policy can help the Tangerines shock Rangers and win the CIS Insurance Cup tomorrow.

The 25-year-old from Waterford oozes a bubbly confidence and, although he respects the Ibrox outfit, he will not be in awe of Walter Smith's Uefa Cup quarter-finalists.

Hunt, who left Shamrock Rovers to join Dunfermline in January 2003, played in United's 2-1 home win over Rangers in the Scottish Premier League in October.

The Tannadice side have beaten Rangers three times in the league since April 2005 and it is such statistics which provide Hunt with hope for the Hampden meeting.

He said: "You don't fear Rangers, that's for sure. I've never feared Rangers as long as I've been in Scotland. They're a great team but I won't be afraid of anybody. What's the point?

"You respect them, they're a big team and they've got a great squad with some excellent players, but it's one for us to go and turn the headlines. We've got a decent record against Rangers and we want to keep that, but it would still be a shock to beat them.

"There haven't been many shocks in this cup this season so we're due one and hopefully it'll be for us. The boys are buzzing and it's been a great build-up."

Hunt has suffered the misfortune of missing two previous finals, both in his spell at Dunfermline, through injury. The diminutive forward is now hoping it proves third time lucky as he seeks to add to his four goals in United's cup run.

He joked: "I'm just trying to stay injury-free until 3pm on Sunday! I'll be okay and I'm looking forward to it.

"They say third time lucky, so I might be able to play this time and win. My scoring record has been decent and hopefully I can improve on it."

Over 17,000 United fans will cheer on Craig Levein's side at the national stadium, with Hunt's older brother, Stephen, likely to be among them. Hunt is the sibling of the Reading midfielder, who has yet to watch Noel in action north of the border.

Hunt, who has netted 15 times this term, said: "I think he's coming up for the game, so it'll be great to see him. I haven't seen him in a while and I've got his ticket here so he has to have his money ready. It's great so many tickets have been sold and I really can't believe it.

"Hopefully our fans will make a big noise like they did in the semi-final win against Aberdeen."
