Soccer: Inter Milan remain adamant Wesley Sneijder will not be sold to Premier League champions Manchester United. The Holland international is currently in Beijing with his club ahead of this weekend's Italian Super Cup against city rivals AC Milan.
It has been reported the match could be Sneijder's last for Inter after United made a formal offer for the playmaker, who is wanted as a replacement for the now-retired Paul Scholes.
Speculation suggests the terms of United's offer would involve a salary pay-cut for the 27-year-old, while negotiations are ongoing with Inter as the Italian club seek a transfer fee of at least €35 million. But Inter's chief executive officer, Ernesto Paolilli, told the club's official website: "Sneijder is here and he's an important part of our team.
"Not so much of what is read in the papers is the truth. As for Sneijder, there is a complete intention that he will stay with us."
Scholes has moved into a backroom role at United, but the Old Trafford legend has previously said that Sneijder would be a suitable successor to his role at the creative heart of midfield.
"Yes, Sneijder's brilliant," said Scholes. "He's been brilliant for the last year or so with Inter Milan and Holland. I don't think it probably worked out as well as he would have liked at Real Madrid but he's a top player.
"I'm sure there's a lot of clubs who will be after him if he is available."
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has indicated Dimitar Berbatov could join Paris St Germain. Following a Manchester United XI's defeat to Marseille on Tuesday, Ferguson was quizzed by reporters on French television station Direct 8.
When asked if PSG fans could expect to see the Bulgarian striker turn out for their side next season, Ferguson abruptly replied "Yes" before moving on.
Despite finishing as the club's top scorer last season, Berbatov's United career has been in doubt since his omission from the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in May.
With Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez expected to be Ferguson's first-choice pairing this season, Berbatov could be tempted by a move to French football.
Capital club PSG have new-found wealth through owners Qatar Investment Authority and are believed to be prepared to meet Berbatov's demands to make him their marquee signing. However, the Bulgarian revealed last month he was planning to stay at United as the 'only way is down' for a player once they head out of Old Trafford.
His agent later confirmed the Bulgarian would see out the final year of his contract and it remains to be seen whether Ferguson seriously expects him to go to PSG.
