Ireland skipper Séamus Coleman has been ruled out of Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia at the Aviva Stadium through injury.
Coleman picked up the knock during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Azaerbaijan in Dublin.
The Everton fullback was partly at fault for the visitors’ goal, allowing Emin Makhmudov the time and space to finish past Gavin Bazunu from distance.
He will be a big miss for the Republic however, whose chances of reaching the World Cup could be mathematically ended by the Group A leaders.
Cyrus Christie, currently at Fulham, has been called up as cover.
