The FAI has confirmed an international friendly against Poland for the vacant slot in Croke Park in November.
The match will be Ireland's last of the year and will follow World Cup qualifiers in Georgia and Montenegro, and a third against Cyprus in Dublin.
It will be an opportunity to significantly boost the coffers of the FAI at a time when funds are stretched with sponsorship in doubt and stadium costs mounting.
The two teams have met 23 times, the last occasion being a scoreless draw in April 2004 in Bydgoszcz. Poland, who are nine places ahead of Ireland in the Fifa world rankings in 32nd, were last in Dublin in May 1991 when the game also ended goalless.
That game was part of the European Championships qualifers and the return leg was 3-3 draw in Poznan.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni said today: "I look forward to playing Poland in Dublin in November. It will provide us with a good test before we continue our World Cup qualification campaign in 2009."
The FAI has also announced that ticket prices for general admission for the redeveloped Lansdowne Road will be frozen at current levels until "at least 2012" after the venue opens two years from now.
