Sunderland boss Roy Keane could make a transfer breakthrough within the next 48 hours as he looks to add depth to his squad.
The Black Cats are understood to be closing in on a deal to bring French youth international Jean-Yves Mvoto to the Stadium of Light.
Mvoto, a 19-year-old central defender, would cost in the region of £300,000. He has yet to make his senior debut for Paris St Germain, but is highly rated in his home country.
Sunderland hope to open talks with the player and his representatives within days as they continue to chase a series of targets.
Keane has so far managed to land Manchester United defender Jonny Evans on loan until the end of the season, but has up to four more players in his sights.
His pursuit of Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt has resulted in a series of unsuccessful bids.
Sunderland were today linked with a £2million swoop for Blackburn striker Jason Roberts.
