Champions League round-up:Late goals from Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard secured Liverpool a 2-0 win over 10-man Inter Milan in their first leg Champions League knockout tie at Anfield tonight.
Inter had defender Marco Materazzi sent off for a second booking after 30 minutes and held out until five minutes from full time when Dutch striker Kuyt's volley flashed past Julio Cesar after the Serie A leaders had failed to clear a Jermaine Pennant cross.
In the final minute Gerrard angled a low long-range shot between Cesar and the post to give Liverpool a two-goal cushion for the return leg at the San Siro.
Olympiakos Piraeus and Chelsea shared a 0-0 draw in a lacklustre Champions League tie at the Karaiskakis Stadium with neither side producing much in the way of clearcut chances.
The best opportunity falling to Olympiakos winger Luciano Galletti whose second half volley went narrowly wide.
Chelsea, who left John Terry and Frank Lampard on the bench, had most of the second-half possession but struggled to break down a dogged home defence.
Substitute Salomon Kalou wasted an excellent opportunity in the dying seconds when he failed to control the ball six metres out.
David Pizarro and Mancini scored as AS Roma came from behind to take charge of their Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid with a 2-1 win .
Real went ahead with their first attack in the eighth minute when Raul diverted a Guti strike into the net after Arjen Robben had broken down the left and cut the ball back.
Chilean midfielder Pizarro drilled Roma level in the 24th after Real's attempt to clear a Mancini cross landed at his feet.
Mancini slipped in the winner in the 58th when captain Francesco Totti found himself in space thanks to Gabriel Heinze's failed attempt to cut out a pass and was able to put the Brazilian winger through on goal.
A Kevin Kuranyi goal in the fourth minute earned Schalke 04 a 1-0 win over Porto in their home tie.
Kuranyi blasted in on the rebound after Porto keeper Helton had failed to hold a shot from Rafinha before the Portuguese side had had time to settle.
Schalke, playing in the knockout stages of the competition for the first time, had plenty of other chances in a one-sided first half and continued to threaten, with Ivan Rakitic and Kuranyi going close with stinging low shots.
Porto, who won the European Cup for the second time on their last visit to the Arena AufSchalke in 2004, created little before Lisandro Lopez almost grabbed an equaliser with a close-range effort that flew wide 10 minutes from time.
