There were three nailbiting one-point wins in Energia All-Ireland League Division 1A on Saturday, with leaders Cork Constitution hanging on to defeat Young Munster 16-15 at Tom Clifford Park.

Con survived a frantic final onslaught from the Cookies, which included a try from Luke Fitzgerald and a yellow card for Duncan Williams. Munsters outhalf Evan Cusack missed the tricky conversion and also sent a touchline penalty wide with the last kick of the game.

Cusack’s intercept try and a penalty had Young Munster 10-5 up at the break, in response to a Rob Jermyn score. Former Munster scrumhalf Williams injected pace to a Con attack for Niall Kenneally’s 51st-minute try, and additional penalties from Jack Crowley and replacement Gerry Hurley proved vital in the end.

Con are nine points clear of second-placed Garryowen who lost 25-24 at UCD. Leinster ‘A’ back rower Ronan Foley starred for the student with a hat-trick of tries, while final quarter tries from Peter Hastie and Tim Foley saw resurgent Lansdowne snatch a 15-14 victory at UCC.

Clontarf racked up an impressive seven tries in their 47-21 bonus-point triumph over Ballynahinch. Dylan Donnellan and Ivan Soroka bagged two for the front row union, with goal-kicking winger Sean Kearns finishing with 17 points.

Terenure College ended a three-match losing run thanks to a superb second half haul of 22 unanswered points. In powering past Dublin University on a 34-20 scoreline, ’Nure’s clutch of tries included a brace from centre Adam La Grue, and Sam Dardis’ fifth of the season.

Meanwhile, second-placed Old Wesley suffered their first defeat in Division 1B with a 17-5 loss at Malone. Callum Smith crossed twice for the Belfast side, a tally matched by fellow centre Ben Murphy in table-topping Highfield’s 19-10 victory over Munster rivals Shannon.

Banbridge produced a barnstorming five-try second half display to thump City of Armagh 43-18, with full-back Adam Doherty contributing 18 points. Hugo Conway's sixth league try proved crucial as St Mary's College edged out Old Belvedere 14-13.
