Soccer:Neil Lennon will appeal the controversial dismissal of Daniel Majstorovic during Celtic's 1-0 win over Inverness at Parkhead which restored their four-point lead over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League.

Midfielder Joe Ledley converted a James Forrest cross from close range after 16 minutes to extend the Hoops’ domestic winning run to 17 games but most of the drama came after the break. On the hour mark Majstorovic was shown a straight red card by referee Steven McLean for a ‘last man’ challenge on Caley midfielder Jonny Hayes, who later admitted that he thought the Sweden international had “got the ball”.

The home fans’ anger dissipated a little when Inverness defender Steve Williams was sent packing in the 77th minute for picking up the second of two yellow cards for a foul on Georgios Samaras. However, the Celtic boss was still angry with McLean and his assistants after the match.

“I am going to speak to the club about it and see if there is grounds for appeal,” he said. “I thought he got the ball. How the linesman could give it is beyond me and there were some very inconsistent decisions out there today.

“I think both sets of coaching staff were unhappy with the performance today. But I don’t think the referee got much help from either of his linesmen. We were told that the linesman gave it, whether I am wrong on that I don’t know.

“I have seen it on the television and it is pretty inconclusive but it looked to me that Daniel got the ball, you see the way the ball moves. It is very debatable decision that has gone against us. You (media) have been making a lot of the decisions that have gone for us in the last couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see the reports on that one.”

In Lennon’s 100th game in charge of the Parkhead club, Celtic extended their domestic winning run to 17 games.

“I am thrilled for the players,” he said. “We had to contend with a lot of things out there today, including the officials so I am delighted with the win and delighted with the clean sheet.”
