Setanta Cup:  Republic of Ireland assistant manager Marco Tardelli was on hand at Richmond Park tonight to witness St Patrick's Athletic scupper Linfield's 100 per cent record in Group Two of the Setanta Cup.

St Pat's opened the scoring in the seventh minute after some good fortune provided Mark Quigley with a second bite of the cherry.

Through some indecision in the Linfield defence, Quigley found himself in space but his effort came back off the post. However, the ball rebounded straight into his path once more and he made no mistake the second time.

The home side went into the break one-nil ahead.

Gary O'Neill fired home a second for St Pat's second in the 76th minute to put the game beyond Linfied's reach. It was a wonderful individual effort as he picked the ball up on the left before cutting inside to fire home from 25 yards out.

Tardelli will have been impressed by the number of chances St Pat's created on the night. And had it not been for a number of fine saves from Linfield keeper Alan Mannus, the Dublin side would have won by more.

At The Oval neither side could be separated by halftime. However, the game sprung into action in the second period after Conor Sammon broke the deadlock for Derry when he converted from the penalty spot on 50 minutes.

Glentoran stuck to their task and 20 minutes later Colin Nixon scored the first goal by any Carnegie Irish League side in the third round to secure the draw.

Linfield remain top of Group Two with six points from three games, while St Pat's move above Derry but both have four points, two more than Glentoran.

In tonight's other domestic action Athlone Town and Kildare County played out a 1-1 draw in the bottom of the table League of Ireland Division One encounter.
