Liverpool pair Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise have been ruled out for at least a fortnight with ankle injuries.
Both players were forced to leave the field during the first half of yesterday's 1-1 Premiership draw against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Scans today have shown that England defender Carragher has sprained a medial ligament while Norway international Riise has torn lateral ligaments.
The news is a blow for Liverpool ahead of the second leg of their Champions League qualifying tie against Maccabi Haifa in Kiev on Tuesday.
A Liverpool spokesman said: "We expect both players to be unable to train for the next two to three weeks."
