Liverpool have been given the green light to build a new 60,000 all-seater stadium in Stanley Park, according to reports on the BBC today.

The city council approved a 999-year lease on a piece of land in Stanley Park where the club had targetted as a potential new venue for many years. Should the club go ahead it would be a small move as the site is only 300metres from Anfield.

Stanley Park is also the common ground which splits Liverpool from their fierce Merseyside rivals Everton as Goodison Park is at the other end of Stanley Park.

Liverpool now have until the end of the month to prove they have the finances to get the project under way.
