Champions League Review: Liverpool scored three goals in the final 12 minutes to keep alive their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout round with a 4-1 win over Group A leaders Porto tonight.
Liverpool took a 19th minute lead when Spain striker Fernando
Torres headed home Steven Gerrard's corner, but were pegged back
when Lisandro Lopez sent a header past keeper Pepe Reina from close
range in the 33rd.
Rafael Benitez's men finally wore down the Portuguese league
leaders in the closing stages with Torres scoring his second of the
night to restore their lead, Gerrard converting a penalty and
substitute Peter Crouch nodding home with three minutes left.
Liverpool need to beat Olympique Marseille away in their
final match to reach the last 16. Third in the group, Benitez's
side are level on seven points with second-placed Marseille, who
lost 2-1 at Besiktas, and a point behind Porto.
Chelsea secured their place in the knockout stages with an impressive 4-0 win against Rosenborg in Trondheim.
A brace of goals from Didier Drogba and a 40-yard free-kick from Brazilian defender Alex had given Chelsea a commanding first-half lead over the Norwegians.
Chelsea then spurned a host of chances in the second period before Joe Cole added a fourth goal in the 73rd minute.
The Blues had their hosts on the ropes from the kick-off in the Lerkendal Stadium with Drogba going close from an acute angle in the second minute.
The Ivorian, playing his first game since recovering from a knee injury sustained on international duty, was clearly in a determined mood.
Massimo Donati fired an injury-time winner to boost Celtic's hopes of progress after another incredible European night at Parkhead.
The Hoops gifted Brandao a fourth-minute opener and their hopes seemed to be disintegrating as Lee Naylor and John Kennedy were carried off injured.
But Jiri Jarosik volleyed a 45th-minute equaliser and Donati put them three points above Shakhtar with virtually the last kick of the game.
