Veteran broadcaster Des Lynam is returning to his Irish roots as the anchor of a new soccer show on the Setanta Sports network.
The Clare man known as the 'Face of Football' has moved to the satellite and cable channel ahead of its revamped coverage of the English Premier League.
The Irish-owned TV company - which has morphed from airing GAA games in ex-patriate pubs in London into an international sports network - said it was a major coup securing Lynam.
"We're delighted Des has agreed to come on board to provide us with his expertise," said Michael O'Rourke, Setanta's joint Chief Executive. "He will add a touch of the elder statesman to our youthful team and I think they'll learn from him."
Born in Ennis in 1942, Lynam moved with his family to Brighton at the age of seven where he went on to carve out his role as one of Britain's top sports presenters.
His warm, easy manner has made him the favourite of armchair sports fans while a female fan base has undoubtedly built up around him.
On Setanta Sports he will interview key football figures - starting with Derry-born Martin O'Neill - on the network's new Friday night programme, Friday Football Show.
TV presenter James Richardson and Ex-Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock are also among the new signings unveiled by Setanta ahead of the Barclays Premier League coverage kick off.
"Neil will bring knowledge and experience as a Premier League manager, a touch of humour and a healthy dollop of controversy," said O'Rourke.
"He's certainly not afraid to speak his mind! And we all know what a popular presenter James Richardson is. Everyone's in place now for the start of the season and we can't wait to get started."
In Ireland the station will air live coverage of 79 Barclays Premier League games which will include Saturday afternoon games not seen in the UK.
