Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has not given up hope of signing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Marseille midfielder Franck Ribery, after missing out on Paris St Germain frontman Pedro Pauleta.
Portuguese international Pauleta (33) became the five-time French champions' number one target after Les Gones made what PSG coach Guy Lacombe called "an astronomical offer" earlier this week.
But the striker, who was Ligue 1 leading scorer with 21 goals last season, opted to extend his contract with PSG by a further year, after the Parisian giants matched Lyon's offer.
"This is not the end of the world for us," Aulas told L'Equipe.
"At least Pedro now has a financial status that is worth his value, and if our offer helped him discuss more with PSG, then I am glad for him.
"It's part of the game. Paris made an effort. I think Pauleta should earn between €10 and €11 million over the next two years."
With Pauleta's named chalked off Lyon coach Gerard Houllier's wish list, Aulas has turned his attention to Ivory Coast talisman Drogba and French international starlet Ribery.
"I spoke with (Chelsea sporting director) Peter Kenyon and he said to me that getting Drogba was impossible," added Aulas.
"So we are waiting, but I will closely follow the performances of the Ivory Coast."
Aulas believes the departure of coach Jean Fernandez from Marseille will prompt the talented Ribery to seek a move away from the Mediterranean giants this summer.
"I think that Fernandez's departure hurt him," added Aulas.
"(Marseille president) Pape Diouf already said that he would not leave. I don't know yet whether he will join Lyon but I don't think he will stay with Marseille." PA
