League of Ireland:Pete Mahon's first game in charge of St Patrick's Athletic ended in a 1-1 draw this evening with Cork City claiming a point at Richmond Park.

Davin O’Neill scored the opener for the Leesiders after just nine minutes but Greg O’Halloran was dismissed after conceding a penalty shortly before the break and Mark Quigley secured a point for the homeside.

The FAI and bookmakers were keeping a keen eye on the Premier Division game between Dundalk and Galway United at Oriel Park last night after betting on the game was suspended by Paddy Power and Boylesports yesterday afternoon.

“Irregular” betting patterns led to the latter closing their book on the game hours before kick-off, while “suspicious” action in favour of Galway forced Paddy Power to do the same.

Both companies notified the FAI of their decisions but Paddy Power was comfortable enough to reopen the betting prior to kick off.

They’ll be glad they did after the homeside romped to a 3-0 win, through goals from Alex Williams, Michael McGowan and Darran Mansaram.

At the Carlisle Grounds, a late goal from James Chambers gave Drogheda United a 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers.

Jamie Duffy gave the visitors the lead with 15 minutes to go before Dane Massey thought he’d secured a point for the homeside with a minute to go.
