Florent Malouda has challenged would-be suitors Liverpool and Chelsea to make him feel "wanted".
The Lyon winger (26) confirmed both clubs have been in contact with the French champions and insists he will be leaving.
Having secured four of his top stars on long-term contracts this week with two more likely to follow, Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez must now trump Jose Mourinho if he is to land Malouda.
The France midfielder insists he has no preference between the two English giants and is now just waiting for more information from Lyon.
He told French sports newspaper L'Equipe: "I have talked with Lyon officials. There are no offers yet, but it is true there has been direct contact. Liverpool and Chelsea have shown interest.
"I don't know how it will be finalised. But, in my mind, it is certain I will leave.
"At Chelsea, there is Didier Drogba and all the rest. But at Liverpool, Rafael Benitez is a great coach too, and the team has played in two Champions League finals in three years.
"To me, the most important thing will be the desire shown by the club. To move abroad, you really have to be wanted.
"I believe it will still need some time. But, if the deal is good for Lyon, I believe they won't try to keep me."
Benitez has turned his attention to boosting his squad after securing new deals for Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Jose Reina and, today, Xabi Alonso.
Republic of Ireland international Steve Finnan and Mohamed Sissoko are next in line.
