Champions League Draw: Chelsea will meet holders Barcelona once again in the Champions League group stages while Manchester United will face Celtic. Liverpool, winners in 2005, will meet PSV Eindhoven while Arsenal will face Porto.
United will also Benfica who eliminated them from the competition last season. FC Copenhagen, who knocked Ajax out with a shock win in the third qualifying round, make their Champions League debut in the same group.
Chelsea knocked Barcelona out 5-4 on aggregate at the first knockout round stage in 2004-05 but the Spanish giants exacted revenge by winning 3-2 on aggregate last season en route to beating Arsenal in the final.
Werder Bremen of Germany and Levski Sofia, the first Bulgarian team to take part in the competition proper, complete Group A.
Arsenal were handed a tough draw against 2004 European champions Porto and CSKA Moscow, winners of the Uefa Cup in 2005. 1983 European champions Hamburg complete Group G.
Six-times winners AC Milan face Lille of France, AEK Athens and Anderlecht in Group H after Uefa sanctioned their participation despite their involvement in the Serie A match-fixing scandal.
Real Madrid, the record nine-times European champions, face Olympique Lyon, Dynamo Kiev and 1986 winners Steaua Bucharest in Group E.
Red Devils chief executive David Gill expects a deafening atmosphere for both parts of the 'Battle of Britain'. Gill told Sky Sports News: "It's a great draw. It's great for the fans and great for the manager Alex Ferguson.
"We have not played against Celtic in a competitive fixture. When we played in Roy (Keane)'s testimonial in May the atmosphere was fantastic, now we've got a competitive fixture I'm sure it will go up many, many decibels."
Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan said: "United are on fire and the overwhelming favourites but, looking at some of the other groups, we are grateful for what we got.
"We are not at our best, but I hope we will be by the time the competition begins."
As for the Liverpool boss Rick Parry said: "We have fond memories of trips to Istanbul and of course we have been to Galatasaray not too long ago.PSV and Bordeaux are a little bit of an unknown for us, but it's okay."
Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is particularly looking forward to facing Hamburg. He said: "I'm quite happy with Hamburg. We finally get to play a German side and I've always been looking forward to that.
"Porto and Moscow are good teams but we have the favourite's position in this group.''
