Inter Milan owner Massimo Moratti has ended speculation about the future of coach Roberto Mancini by saying he will remain in charge next season, but must be more successful this time.
Inter won the Italian Cup for the second successive season but finished third in Serie A behind AC Milan and champions Juventus.
Asked if Mancini's position was safe, Moratti said: "Yes, yes, absolutely, but this year he has to do well," Inter's official website reported on Tuesday.
Mancini has been in charge of Inter for two seasons after joining them from Lazio.
Earlier in the season he went on record as saying he would like to leave the club and work abroad.
Brazilian striker Adriano is known to have been the protagonist in dressing room unrest within the club and the news that Mancini is staying will undoubtedly fuel rumours on the striker's departure.
Up to now Mancini has enjoyed the support of Moratti and the fans despite a forgettable season in Europe and in Serie A.
