CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ROUND-UP:Marseille gave both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid some breathing space at the top of Group D after they secured their first points in this season's campaign by crushing PSV Eindhoven 3-0 at home.

Ivory Coast striker Bakari Kone opened their scoring on the half hour and also set up Senegal striker Mamadou Niang to volley home from close range after 63 minutes. Niang went on to double his tally after 71 minutes to leave both sides on three points.

Bordeaux got themselves back in to contention in Group A with a 2-1 win away to CFR Cluj. Yoann Gourcuff put the French team in front after six minutes before Dani headed Cluj level three minutes later.

Brazilian Wendel grabbed the winner for Bordeaux from a 19-metre free kick in the 38th minute. Bordeaux and Roma now share second place with six points from four games, one point behind leaders Chelsea.

Striker Julio Cruz headed in 10 minutes from time to spare defender Nicolas Burdisso's blushes and give Inter Milan a 3-3 draw at Anorthosis Famagusta in Group B.

A win would have put Jose Mourinho's side through to the last 16 but instead the group leaders gifted Anorthosis three goals. Mario Balotelli and Marco Materazzi twice put Inter ahead in the first half but poor headers from Burdisso and Esteban Cambiasso allowed Cedric Bardon and Georgios Panagi to twice equalise.
   
Argentina defender Burdisso then got in another muddle with a header and Nikolaos Frousos fired home five minutes after the break before substitute Cruz nodded in Balotelli's free kick.

Panathinaikos revived their hopes of a place in the knock-out phase when a ruthless second-half display earned them a 3-0 win away to Werder Bremen.
  
Vangelis Mantzios made it 1-0 with just under an hour gone, Giorgios Karagounis lashed in a perfect half-volley for the second and Alexandros Tziolis made certain when his first-time shot on the rebound wrong-footed goalkeeper Tim Wiese.

Barcelona reached the last 16 despite being held to a 1-1 draw by a determined Basel at the Nou Camp.
   
Substitute Lionel Messi put Barca in front when he exchanged passes with Thierry Henry on the edge of the area and placed a precise left-foot shot into the bottom corner of the net past Franco Costanzo in the 62nd minute.

The Primera Liga leaders looked to be cruising but were rocked by a fine goal from Eren Derdiyok with eight minutes left, the Basel forward lashing in a first-time shot from a right-wing cross by midfielder Carlitos.

Sporting Lisbon also made it out of Group C with a nervy 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

After a lacklustre first half with few chances for both teams, Sporting broke the deadlock when veteran Brazilian striker Derlei converted a cross from the Russian midfielder Marat Izmailov after 73 minutes.
