Roberto Martinez has finally been named Wigan's new manager on a three-year contract after negotiations with Swansea regarding his backroom staff were resolved.

The 35-year-old Spaniard was due to be unveiled last Thursday but proceedings were delayed because of a wrangle over his support staff.

However, the clubs have now agreed further compensation for under-contract pair assistant manager Graeme Jones and chief scout Kevin Reeves as well as Martinez.

Goalkeeping coach Inaki Bergara and masseur Oscar Brau are also moving to the DW Stadium.

Martinez will be presented to the media at 3pm tomorrow and is thrilled to return to a club he served as a player for six years from 1995.

He told their official website, www.wiganlatics.co.uk: "The club has always been close to my heart. I am looking forward to getting stuck in and taking on teams in the best league in the world.

"I cannot wait for my first game, it seems like a long time away but there is a lot of work to do before then."

Martinez guided Swansea to the Coca-Cola League One title in 2007-08 before steering them to an eighth-placed finish in the Championship in the season just ended.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan said: "Roberto was always my number one choice. I have always liked him and taken notice of how he is getting on.

"What he has achieved at Swansea, getting them promoted and almost reaching the play-offs, is a remarkable achievement and shows to me he has the skills and quality we need to be a success here."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins had called for an end to the saga as he felt it was damaging pre-season preparations.

He told www.swanseacity.net: "I don't think either club are totally happy with the final compensation figure agreed for the backroom staff.

"But I think both clubs realise that this matter now needs to be concluded so that we can all move on and prepare for the new season.

"The fixture list is out on Wednesday and we are determined to be ready for the new Championship campaign when it kicks off on August 8.

"We are also determined to start the campaign strongly and keep Swansea moving forward."
