Munster Senior League side Mayfield United have been cast in the role of giant killers after they were drawn away to defending champions Bohemians in the third round of the FAI Ford Cup tonight.
The Cork outfit will travel to Dalymount Park on the weekend of June 14th to take on Pat Fenlon’s charges, who claimed a seventh title last November in a thrilling final against Derry City that was eventually decided on penalties.
The draw threw up two all-Premier Division ties, with the new Tallaght Stadium set to host its first FAI Cup tie as 14-times champions Shamrock Rovers entertain Drogheda United. Current league leaders Cork City have been drawn at home to Sligo Rovers, who last won the title in 1994.
Donegal side Fanad United have been given plenty of motivation to win their second round replay against Ballymun United at the AUL next Sunday as the winners will travel to the Brandywell to take on Derry City
There will be at least one non-league team in the fourth round draw as ‘A’ Championship sides Tralee Dynamoes and Salthill Devon meet, with the Kerry side enjoying home advantage.
