McCarthy seeks Rovers exit

Benni McCarthy's agent has revealed the South African striker wants to leave Blackburn in the January transfer window.

Benni McCarthy's agent has revealed the South African striker wants to leave Blackburn in the January transfer window.

The former Porto ace has struggled for first-team outings at Ewood Park this season and has not started a Premier League game in over two months.

He has scored twice in two appearances in the Carling Cup, but the 31-year-old has become frustrated by his lack of action in the league.

McCarthy has been linked with a loan move to Portsmouth in the New Year and his representative Rob Moore confirmed the forward is keen to leave.

Moore admitted that it may also be beneficial for McCarthy's compatriot Elrio van Heerden to move on in January.

"Yes, Benni wants to leave Blackburn," Moore told kickoff.com.

"He has not been given the chance to show his worth this season in the Premiership and there's no denying that it seems like he is not the type of player Sam Allardyce is looking for.

"This has been a bad season at Blackburn for both Elrio and Benni - neither seem to be the kind of player that fits into the Blackburn system and both need to move on in January."

Van Heerden joined Blackburn on a free transfer from Club Brugge in the summer, but he has made just one substitute's appearance in the Carling Cup to date.
